Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

3/4 cup butter, softened

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 tsp. vanilla

1 egg plus 1 egg yolk

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. baking soda

2 1/4 cup all purpose flour

1 cup chocolate chips

Preparation

Mix butter and sugar together. Add the egg, extra egg yolk, and vanilla then mix well using the paddle attachment if you’re using a stand mixer.

Add salt, baking soda, and flour. Gently mix just until incorporated.

Add chocolate chips and gently mix in.

Scoop cookies by spoonfuls onto a cookie sheet and pop them in the freezer for 30 minutes (or longer!)

Preheat oven time 350 degrees.

Bake cookies 10-12 minutes. Then allow them to cool on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before removing them to a cooling rack.

A few tips to the best cookies

Ingredients matter- better quality ingredients generally produce better quality baked goods. I prefer to use Gold Medal or White Lilly flour. I’ve used off brands and it can make a difference. I also prefer to used salted butter.

One thing to remember when making cookies is not to over mix your flour. You do not want to over develop the gluten. This is also why I like for the dough to chill and rest before baking.

Another reason I chill my dough is to allow the fat or (butter) to become more solid, which reduces the spread of the cookie during baking.

Always be sure your oven is preheated before putting the cookies and I normally always bake on a silicone mat (I’ll add the link if you’d like to shop my favorite baking items!)
